I have lived in the Pacific Northwest all my life, and take inspiration from the many kinds of people who call this place home. I love fostering community through communication, and feel that sharing our unique experiences is the way to teaching understanding and kindness.
I recently had a discussion with an academic at a local university, and they drew this quote from me: "Labels are not definitions, but invitations for connection." Labels can be very important. They represent many kinds of people groups, but every individual in those people groups will have their own definition of what that label means to them. However, by sharing that label with other people, they find community.
